Singalila Trek and Guiche La Trek

Singalila Trek and Guiche La Trek

This is a perfect walking holiday. It is a combination of two treks that are very different. It takes you to Darjeeling – which is a wonderful destination in itself, and from where we trek for 6 days along the Singalila Ridge for panoramic views of 4 of the 5 highest mountains including Mt. Everest. This helps us acclimatise for the more demanding trek that takes us to 4940m in Sikkim. The highest point on the Sandakphu is 3636m. In contrast to our walk in Sandakphu where we walk through terraced fields, forests of oak and rhododendron and windswept ridges where we view the snow covered mountains across the valleys, in Sikkim we trek up steep paths in the forest to the alpine region of Dzongri to view mountains at close range and walk up glacial valleys through dwarf rhododendron bushes and past glaciers to the view point at Guiche-la Pass 4940m

We use Darjeeling in the foothills of the Himalaya as our base for this trek. We explore Darjeeling, which is a friendly and relaxed town with an interesting mixture of the days of the Raj and a vibrant Tibetan Buddhist culture. We visit the snow leopard breeding centre, the Tibetan Centre, Himalayan Mountain Institute and the Dali Tibetan Buddhist Monastery amongst other activities.
